Today, only the courthouse and the long building on the left remain. The Clark Title Co. Building has replaced the Commercial Club, which was formerly between these two. All the buildings on the right are now a parking lot. The Williams and Cameron Hardware Store was built in 1907 at 315 South Main Street and was first known as the Champlin Block. S. Williams and James Cameron operated their hardware business from this location c. 1910-1920. The upper floor of the building, a large open area, once housed the Rainbow Ballroom.
It was not uncommon for a business to advertise civic functions on their correspondence. This is for the 7th Annual Grain Palace Expo in 1899. C. Lamont. This is the front and back of a popular advertising envelope used by many different businesses in 1905 to promote Aberdeen. The city experienced a large population growth over the next 10 years. The Brown Brothers also became bankers of the only Aberdeen Bank that collapsed because of the panic of 1929. Citizens were so angry at the Browns that they even destroyed their family tombstones in Riverside Cemetery.
This house was moved in the early 1960s when the Milligan family donated the land to the city of Aberdeen as a site for the new Alexander Mitchell Library. The elder Milligan served as president of the library board for 20 years prior to his death in 1939. N. Harris was an attorney and judge. This home was built in the early part of the 20th century on Ninth Avenue southeast and Washington Street, where it still stands today serving as an apartment house. Arthur E. Boyd and his wife Della built this home in 1906.
